COVID-19 Update; How It Affects Our Spring Order

COVID-19 has thrown a wrench in much of the world’s day to day operations, and unfortunately our spring imports as as well. We have received the following message from Pine Island:

“We are doing well thank you for asking, it is a bit crazy here with Covid-19. We have stopped shipping out of the country as the ports and Canadian border has been closed. Some states have placed curfews in their cities. Not looking good to be honest.”

What this means: Our Spring plant orders will not be arriving as scheduled. It is not known at this time when the situation will be resolved. If this situation persists for an extended period of time, the plants we have ordered may not be sent, due to no longer being a ship-able size, or having been sold to other local nurseries in the USA. Anyone that has pre-booked a reservation/order will have their deposit refunded if required. We will keep you updated as news improves, and reach out should we be informed we are unable to fill your order. Please feel free to reach out with any questions. Thank you.

Garden update, with lots of photos!

Well nearly the end of February, everyone is going through their catalogues and wish list’s, trying to match them up. What a marvelous time of year. If your house and/or greenhouse have Citrus then like us, you are suffering with the heavy scent of blossoms wafting through the air. Do not forget to pollinate around midday, an artists brush gently stroked over anthers and stigmas does the trick nicely. Your reward will be fruit in July-Nov. Any not in bud will usually come into blossom April-May.

In about 3-4 weeks we will be able to start spring pruning and tidying up. Our first seeds are sown and germinated, Strawberries need an early start to blossom and fruit by June. Next will be Leeks, Onions then Lettuce, and Tomatoes followed by Broccoli at the end of March.

Weather forecast is still typical for the time of year, although we are down on total precipitation for January and so far through February.

Only a few weeks left to order from our Pine Island plant offering. We already have a couple of orders, and look forward over the next three weeks helping to put clients wishes into reality.

BIG NEWS!

Tropic of Canada is proud to bring you our latest collaboration. Pine Island Nursery, Florida, grow some of the most sort after species and varieties we have been asked to source. So, we have! Please look over the list; if enough people confirm their interest we will be very happy to go forward with our arrangement.

Plants will all be available in 3 gallon size containers (so yes, large). Please make note of the minimum temperatures required. Some of these plants will need a window each, so make sure you have enough room!

Our timing for shipping at this time will be May, depending on temperature.

Let your imagination grow as you look over the exotic list. Let us know what you would reserve, and we will take it from there! Email: customer_service@tropicofcanada.ca
