| Description: This rare dwarf Sapodilla produces fruit when young, often within the first year as a container plant. The fruit holds on the branches for several months until it ripens becoming soft when ready to pick. The sweet fruit can be scooped out with a spoon and tastes like brown sugar. Grow in full sun and hand-pollinate to ensure fruit set if grown indoors. Although optimum minimum temperatures are 15'C (60'F), it can tolerate temperatures down to 5'C (40'F) for short periods. Well suited for pot culture as it can easily be maintained at less than 5' in height while still producing an abundance of fruit. Sapodilla plants produce chicle, a white natural gum that was originally used to make chewing gum. | ||
