Description: The Yellow Jamaican Cherry Tree (Muntingia calabura) is named for berries that look like yellow cherries and taste like nature's cotton candy. From 1st year it fruits abundantly, quickly, and year-round. This yellow variation on the classic Jamaican cherry tree is quite rare. The fruit tends to be a little larger than the red type and the yellow fruit tastes better. This may simply be because of a better flesh-to-skin ratio. It is known by many different names, such as strawberry tree (since its leaves look like a strawberry plant), Panama berry tree, cotton candy berry tree, and jam fruit tree. The tree is fairly cold sensitive and doesn’t tend to re-sprout well from freezes.
